FCG International Lifetime Achievement 2006: JULIO MARÍA SANGUINETTI 


JULIO MARÍA SANGUINETTI has been chosen the winner of the FCG International Lifetime Achievement Award 2007 by the Jury at a meeting held in Valladolid today under the chairmanship of Mr. Ricardo Díez Hochleitner.

The Jury in the category of “A Lifetime Achievement”, made up by Mr. Ricardo Díez Hochleitner, President of Honor of the Club of Rome; Mr. Julio Fermoso García, President of Caja Duero Savings Bank; Mr. Francisco Javier León de la Riva, Mayor of Valladolid; Mr. Enrique Ojeda Vila, Director of the Tres Culturas Foundation; Mr. Emilio Ybarra Aznar, Director-General for Development of ABC Newspaper, has unanimously agreed to award the FCG International Award for A Lifetime Achievement 2007 to JULIO MARÍA SANGUINETTI: Born in Montevideo, 6th January 1936, Julio María Sanguinetti has degrees in Law and Social Sciences. He is also a journalist and a politician from the Republic of Uruguay. Prior to the Dictatorship, he was Minister for Industry and Commerce (1969-1971) and for Education (1972), a field in which he gave an impulse to important changes. He has been President of the Republic of Uruguay on two occasions: During the first period (1985-1990) he promoted reconciliation and internal peace in Uruguayan society and during the second period (1995-2000) we must underline the reforms made in the economy and education, highlighting particularly his political leadership of the Latin American Countries. He has been distinguished with an Honorary Doctorate Degree by several universities. He has published numerous books and regularly writes in different means of communication in Latin America and Europe.

The members of the Jury decided in favor of the former President of Uruguay, having studied the 49 nominations received for this award from Bulgaria, Colombia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Morocco, Portugal, Russia, Spain, the United States and Uruguay.

According to the conditions of the prize, “The FCG International Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to the person or group of people whose trajectory, both in their personal and professional dedication, in the political, social, cultural or scientific fields and during a significant period of their life, has been outstanding in reaching achievements that are an example to humanity.” 

 

JULIO MARÍA SANGUINETTI: Biography

Born in Montevideo, 6th January 1936, Julio María Sanguinetti has degrees in Law and Social Sciences. He is also a journalist and a politician from the Republic of Uruguay.

Prior to the Dictatorship, he was Minister for Industry and Commerce (1969-1971) and for Education

The Prize, an original piece in 18 carat gold made by Cristóbal Gabarrón, the artist whose name the Foundation bears, will be awarded on 19th October next in Teatro Calderón in Valladolid (Spain) during a gala –which will also celebrate this year the XV anniversary of the establishment of the Foundation- in which the Prizes will be given to the 9 award-winners, each in their corresponding category.
