FCG International Economics Award 2010: JOSÉ ANTOLÍN TOLEDANO

 

For his contribution to the Economy and business in the automobile sector, for his support for research and internationalization and also for his role in job creation and consolidation of economic models in today’s world.”; According to the Jury, bestowed JOSÉ ANTOLÍN TOLEDANO with The Gabarron Foundation 2010 International Economics Award.

The Jury met  in Valladolid, July 5, 2010 under the Presidency of Mr. Tomas Villanueva Rodriguez and with Mr.  Santiago González Suárez acting as Secretary  the Jury, was composed of Mr. Antonio Catalán Díaz, President of AC Hotels; Mr. Santiago González Suárez, Director of TVE; Mr. Antonio Miguel Méndez Pozo, President of  Grupo de Comunicación Promecal; Mr. José Manuel Vargas Gómez,  CEO of Vocento; Mr. Tomás Villanueva Rodríguez, Second Vicepresident and Adviser Minister for Economy and Employment of the Junta Castilla Leon.

In two generations from running a garage in Palencia to a multinational with presence in 22 countries

1936

José Antolín Toledano  was born in Quintana del Puente (Palencia) and at very young age he moved to live in Burgos with his family. His grandfather was already manufacturing cars,  so the family was linked from the  beginning to this kind of business.

50's

At 14, he starts working with his brother Avelino in the garage that his father, Avelino Antolin Lopez, had on Calle Salas in Burgos, learning day by day, with an innate entrepreneurial vocation.

At that time, the ball was a piece that caused numerous accidents, especially in trucks.The Antolin Brothers invented then the rubber-metal one through the inclusion of a piece of rubber, extending the life of this component

1959

The Company ANSA is created, dedicated to the manufacture of steering and suspension ball joints of the car.
They patented the rubber ball and start at that time orders for the leading manufacturers of trucks, in Spain and abroad. Barreiros was his first client, later Pegaso, SIMCA, Fasa-Renault, Seat, Land Rover ...

Demand is growing really fast and the Antolin family decided to extend the old Workshops ANSA. To organize the company, the brothers work with experts in business management, getting the company to be the one with highest quality in Europe.

1968

In partnership with Lemförder, a leading German company,  the ANSA-Lemförder S.A. is created.The Company, based in Burgos, has the brothers as majority shareholders. This is the beginning of the strategy of product diversification, acquiring manufacturing licenses for vehicle interior parts such as locks and windows.

1969

the founder died, Avelino Antolin Lopez and the company starts to be managed by his sons and Jose and Avelino.

70's

Together with the Italian company Pianfei, begins a period of manufacturing roof trim for the interior of the cars, incorporating an advanced technology, the Glasutec, based on polyurethane.

Other product lines are added, such as seats (ARA, SL), windows (Dapsa) and door trims.

1985

is created the Company Grupo Antolin in order to manage, coordinate and consolidate the activities of the different companies forming the corporation. At the Head of the Company, Avelino Antolin Toledano as President, and Joseph Antolin as Vicepresident.

 

1989

Strategy focused on the design and production of the components of the interior of vehicle. Begins then a phase of internationalization, coinciding with the decision in Spain of car manufacturers to move their development offices and centers of decision to their countries of origin. It is assumed the process of going abroad as a challenge with a clear aim:  reach 100,000 million pesetas of sales in 2000. The first step is having representative offices in major centers of European decision as Germany, France or the UK.

1992

Takes place the sale of ANSA-Lemförder to ZF Group in order to concentrate on the business of car interiors.

1993

New approach to ID+ i: Grupo Antolin-Ingenieria is created.

1995

Avelino died and José Antolin  was named president of Grupo Antolin.

2000

It generates a new growth path, passing from a simple product to another modular one based on multitechnology approach.

2001

There is an organizational change: from a functional structure to territorial orientation with three major business units in Europe, South America, North America, Africa-Asia-Pacific.

2004/05

Grupo Antolin resolves to strengthen its growth strategy by opening its capital to a consortium of five banks.

The company again received support from the financial community through the signing of a syndicated loan of 320 million euros.

2009

The Group launches a new organizational model, creating three Strategic Business Units (Unit Ceilings, Doors and Unit Seats).

Novation of the Syndicated Loan, including a new one of EUR 50 Million.

Currently, Grupo Antolin is a Spanish multinational leader in the design and manufacture of components and assemblies for car interiors: Ceilings, Doors and Seats. The Company employs 10. 736 people with a turnover of 1,596 million euros in 2009. It has also presence in 22 countries through 86 centers and 20 technical-commercial offices.

The Group has the personnel and the most advanced technologies, being able to integrate them into the structures of their clients, follow them on their projects throughout the world, providing on-site products and services of the highest quality.

2007

“Premio a la Innovación” by the SPE (Society of Plastics Engineers de Estados Unidos) to Grupo Antolín by DTM module door (Door Trim Module).

2006

“Premio Regional a la Innovación en Castilla y León” by Fundación Execyl (Fundación para la Excelencia Empresarial) in the category "Innovative Product" by the Carbon Nanofibers product.

2005

“Premio Internacionalización Empresarial”, otorgado by Junta de Castilla y León to José Antolín.

2004

“Premio Príncipe Felipe a la Excelencia Empresarial” in the Technological Innovation for the door module (DTM)

1997

“Premio Príncipe Felipe a la Excelencia Empresarial” in the Internationalization section.

1994

“Premio a la Mejor Labor de Promoción Comercial” by Junta de Castilla y León.
