Valencia, 25 November 2015. The City of Arts and Science of Valencia and the Gabarron Foundation are pleased to present the solo exhibition of the Belgium-Uruguayan artist Javier D’ Ambrosio. The opening reception has taken place today, Wednesday 25 of Novmeber, at 11.00 in Paseo del Arte del Umbracle, Valencia.
This exposition stems from the exhibition of the Belgium-Uruguayan artist at the headquarters of the Gabarron´s Foundation in New York, last May. Javier D'Ambrosio’s work is related to his religious practice, which is native to the African continent. His lush paintings and majestic sculptures are both cultural objects and healing artifacts. The experience, of which he makes us part, goes beyond the world of art, expanding to reach the dimension of the ritual.
Javier D’Ambrosio was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, where he studied art at Clever Lara Art School. Later, he completed studies in Architecture and Interior Design at Uppsala University in Sweden and at Luis Canmitser Art School in Baldotavo, Italy. From 1988 to date, master D'Ambrosio has exhibited in major galleries in cities in Europe, America, Asia and Latin America, including Raphael Doueb’s gallery, Le Monde de L'Art, Paris (France); Pellini gallery, Milan (Italy); Jorgensen gallery, Copenhagen (Denmark); Einar Melander gallery, Oslo (Norway); Inclusion Gallery Chicago, Illinois; and Tibetan & Himalayan Arts gallery, Kathmandu (Nepal) among others. His work is known worldwide for its high content of elements that evoke earth rites. All sculptures and installations contain elements of ossuaries (bones, feathers, animal wings, etc.) These types of pieces were collected in different rural or desert landscapes in different geographies of the world.
