Gabarrón presents its monumental sculpture
in the Guangdong Museum of China
The opening of the exhibition of the sculptural series “Torres de la Alhambra” (Alhambra Towers), took place the October 11, 2015 at the Guangdong Museum, in Guangzhou. The opening was followed by a welcome ceremony to the artist, where the educational and artistic programmes organised by the Gabarron Foundation were presented. Its activities will involve 1000 Chinese children.
During the day, two events were held, the first one being the presentation at the museum at 4 pm of the sculptural series “Torres de la Alhambra” (Alhambra Towers). The Museum Director, Shao Shan, highlighted the strength of the art piece and its commitment with the children, field where the museum is accomplishing an important work. The Spanish General Consul in Canton, Mr. Manuel Pombo, pointed out the opportunity this sculptures represent to make the Spanish culture known, not only through their contemporary character, but also through their explosion of colours. The Spanish General Counsel invited the people there present to build cultural bridges with Spain, invitation that its Canton counterpart accepted, adding that he committed himself to support the cultural exchange. Gabarrón, in turn, called for art to be an educational vehicle, as well as for the understanding between different cultures, religions and countries. To this extent, the Alhambra and the Alhambra Towers, represent the coexistence of cultures that lived together in Spain, in peace and harmony, for centuries.
The second event took place during sunset, searching for the magic interplay of colours at the place were the mural will be created. The projection of the colours enabled to share with the attendees the virtual result of the future mural. The same night, a special TV programme on culture and education on channel G4, decided to commemorate its eleventh anniversary with the announcement of the launching of a cultural programme targeted to children, and with the presentation of the 400m2 mural that will be done with the artist. This TV show counts with more than 400 million followers on the Southeast region of the Asian country.
The mural, named “Metamorfosis” (Metamorphosis), aims to inspire the metamorphosis of the child, with art as the key element in his education, creating a passion that will accompany him during his adult life, and that he will after share with his siblings. Likewise, the objective of the mural is to promote individual responsibility whilst encouraging team work. The mural will be created by more than 1000 children with the collaboration of the Museum and the State railway.
