The foundation Casa Pintada- Cristobal Gabarron Museum opens the exhibition ‘Modern Marie Antoinette’s’ by the artist Edurne Herran.
I navigating through the Internet looking for second hand wedding dress photos, and then I download them to complete my own collection.The individuals who sell these dresses create a non-professional treatment to the photos to hide their identity. Cutting the faces out in some cases, or painting them and scratching them off in others. It interest me to speculate the motive for selling the dresses; it could be a failed marriage, economical needs, but, in either case, it makes us think about the myth of a wedding and everything that revolves around them.
For some time I had been investigating about weddings, the rituals, and the meaning of the dress, planning to formalize the work in an objectual way (utilizing the wedding dress as a primary material). Previously I had made several post work photographs and my favorite books were ‘The house of Pandora’ by Joan Fontcuberta and ‘Artistic and Internet Practices in the Era of Social Networking’ by Juan martin Prada.With all this imagery in my head, suddenly occurred what I call 'an everyday accident' one day I opened my email, I received an email from e-bay inviting me to see what my favorite vendors had for me, I agreed to link, and appeared before me the image that has been the germ of my project: a wonderful photo of a vintage wedding dress whose cattier had cut off his head…
The change of this course in the project causes me to change my attention to the wedding dresses used, and devalued. A testimony that serves as a metaphor to reflect in how family patterns have changed and yet still use the same codes, now obsolete, completely empty of meaningful symbols. The purity and virginity that are supposed to represent aren’t present anymore in the vast majority of the cases.
